Point Lobos State Park has miles of trails and beautiful views. |
I spent last week on the Central Coast of California. What a beautiful place! I was there for a conference that spotlighted sustainable and eco-tourism efforts in many different parts of the world, which was fascinating. During the field trips and my time off though, I was struck by the many different worlds I experienced right there, within an hour's drive of Monterey. There was the tourist-driven atmosphere on the Fisherman's Wharf and the native wildlife living in the waters beneath it.
Just blocks away, the Monterey Bay Aquarium is an amazing look into the world of the seas and the creatures that inhabit them.
A few miles down the highway, the rocky cliffs of Point Lobos State Park (top, above) give way to the soft white sands of Carmel (right). I love the beaches where I live, but I have to say, this diverse coastline, while definitely a different world, was one I'd like to explore more. I was lucky enough to get a glimpse of history being made from the world of space while I was there, too. I got to see the Space Shuttle Endeavor do a fly-by of the California coast. After 25 space flights, the shuttle flew by Carmel just as I was arriving on Friday. What a wonderful world? What wonderful worlds! I am feeling very lucky and blessed to explore a few of them.
